12 Students Receive Grants and Scholarships to Continue Higher Education
Networking for Equal Education and Economic Development (N.E.E.E.D) of
Philadelphia awarded scholarships to four students from Philadelphia and also
presented eight former scholarship recipients with Last Dollar Stipends used for unforeseen educational expenses. In total over $3,600.00 was distributed in scholarships. In addition to scholarships, N.E.E.E.D awarded $150 to Philadelphia School District students who volunteered in their community and excelled academically. N.E.E.E.D of Philadelphia was co-founded twenty years ago by Retired State Representative Harold James of the 186th Legislative District and Eugene “Macky” Guy, and will be celebrating their twentieth anniversary of providing financial assistance to over 138 students seeking higher education and promoting volunteerism within schools and communities to over 68 students within the Philadelphia School District. N.E.E.E.D will also recognize four distinguished previous scholarship recipients, Councilman Kenyatta Johnson; Tyrone Sturdivant; Alana Lee; and India Thomas, for their commitment to giving back to their communities.
The Annual Student Scholarship Recognition and 20th Anniversary Program and Reception will be held at the Tasker Street Missionary Baptist Church, 2010 Tasker Street, on Saturday, January 5, 2013 at Noon. N.E.E.E.D. of Philadelphia is a 501(C)3 non-profit run by dedicated, concerned citizens of Philadelphia on a mission to elevate the youth of our communities to prosper in life and be productive citizens.
